US President-elect Donald Trump renewed his offer to make Canada the 51st state of the United States after the resignation of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Trudeau, who announced his resignation due to growing unpopularity, will stay on as prime minister till his party elects a new leader. Trump has been advocating this idea since his electoral victory in November, citing economic benefits and security from Russian and Chinese ships.
