President-elect Donald Trump has stated that he may use military or economic action to acquire the Panama Canal and Greenland, and suggested turning Canada into a U.S. state. Trump has also floated the idea of changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and criticized NATO allies for not spending enough on defense. Additionally, he has threatened to impose tariffs on Denmark if it resists his offer to purchase Greenland.
