Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy appointed Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s former deputy prime minister, as his economic development adviser. Freeland, who has Ukrainian ancestry, will help Ukraine strengthen its economic resilience amid the ongoing war. She will focus on attracting investment and reinforcing Ukraine's defense. Freeland continues to serve as a lawmaker in the Canadian parliament and is Ottawa’s special envoy to Ukraine.
