At the U.N. COP16 nature talks in Colombia, countries agreed that companies in sectors like pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and biotechnology should pay for using genetic information from biodiversity in their research and development. This payment would fund nature conservation, with half of the proceeds going to Indigenous communities. The deal was reached after negotiations between countries, despite disagreements between India and Switzerland.
