💨 Abstract
The Steenkampskraal rare-earth mine, 350 km north of Cape Town, holds some of the world’s highest-grade deposits. Once operated by Anglo American (1952–1963), it was abandoned but now stands to benefit from global efforts to reduce reliance on China, which dominates 60% of rare-earth extraction.
