💨 Abstract

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has issued a warning about potential rabies infections among Cape fur seals along South Africa's western coastline. Recent aggressive behavior, such as attacking humans and other animals, indicates a rise in rabies cases. The City of Cape Town is implementing measures to manage the threat, including surveillance, humane removal of symptomatic seals, and public awareness campaigns. If encountered, individuals should avoid contact, clean any wounds thoroughly, and seek immediate medical attention.
