💨 Abstract
Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu has been placed on paid leave pending a judicial commission of inquiry into criminal allegations made against him. The process, which could last several months, is being handled with urgency, and interim reports are expected. Professor Firoz Cachalia will serve as acting minister. Mchunu's salary, over R2.6 million per year, continues during the leave. The minister has expressed his commitment to the process and stands ready to defend against the accusations.
