💨 Abstract
President Cyril Ramaphosa dismissed Deputy Minister Andrew Whitfield for traveling to the United States without permission, violating established rules. Ramaphosa clarified that such dismissals are within his constitutional prerogative and cited past precedents. The Democratic Alliance (DA) issued an ultimatum, which Ramaphosa deemed unjustified. Ramaphosa had informed DA leader John Steenhuisen and expected him to present a replacement, noting that Whitfield was aware of his violation.
