Small-scale fishers in South Africa are protesting an 86% cut in line fish boat allocations for the 2026/27 season, which they say threatens their livelihoods and communities. The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) reduced the number of approved vessels from 565 to 77.
