💨 Abstract
Police in the Western Cape have arrested 722 gang members and seized 1,500 illegal firearms in seven months, targeting crime hotspots like Mitchell’s Plain and Manenberg. National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola credited intensified operations and community support for the results. However, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis criticized SAPS for reduced deployments, noting the city has filled gaps with 1,263 metro police officers.
