💨 Abstract

South African Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has introduced a draft Protected Disclosure Bill to enhance protections for whistleblowers. The bill aims to safeguard the identities of those reporting corruption and prevent retaliation. It includes measures like financial support, partnerships with the private sector, and strict confidentiality protocols. The department is seeking public and civil society input before advancing the bill through Parliament. The current laws are deemed insufficient in protecting whistleblowers and addressing corruption complaints.
