💨 Abstract

The Gauteng High Court dismissed the Information Regulator's attempt to block the publication of the 2025 matric results. Judge Mark Morgan ruled that publishing results using examination numbers does not infringe on learners' privacy as it does not constitute processing of personally identifiable information. The decision allows the public release of matric results using examination numbers, a long-standing practice. The ruling was supported by the Department of Basic Education and AfriForum, while the Economic Freedom Fighters backed the regulator's challenge.
