đź’¨ Abstract

The South African government has revived plans for a high-speed rail link between Johannesburg and Durban, seeking private sector investment. Transport Minister Barbara Creecy launched a nationwide Request for Information (RFI) to gather ideas and investment models for modernizing the passenger rail system. The initial phase involves introducing regional rapid trains traveling up to 120km/h on existing infrastructure, connecting major cities. Eventually, the goal is to build new high-speed rail corridors.
