💨 Abstract
In April 2026, the East London Regional Court upheld Julius Malema's conviction for unlawful firearm possession and discharge but allowed him to appeal his five-year prison sentence. Magistrate Twanet Olivier confirmed the conviction but granted leave to appeal the sentence, keeping Malema out on bail. The case originated from a 2018 video showing Malema firing a rifle during an EFF event. The court found him guilty on multiple charges after a lengthy trial.
