💨 Abstract

NASA satellite images have revealed extensive harmful algal blooms at Hartbeespoort Dam, highlighting ongoing water quality issues. The images, captured between June 2022 and July 2023, show bright green swirls spreading and fading across the dam's waters. These blooms, caused by excess nutrients like phosphorus from agricultural runoff and wastewater, can deplete oxygen levels, leading to fish kills and other ecological problems.
