đź’¨ Abstract
After facing over 20,000 public criticisms, South Africa's Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition, Parks Tau, withdrew the proposed National Credit Amendment Act regulations on September 11, 2025. The draft, which aimed to allow educational institutions to report students’ payment history and outstanding debt to credit bureaus, was met with fierce opposition. The withdrawal was hailed as a victory, particularly by the Economic Freedom Fighters, who advocated for students.
