💨 Abstract
After a decade of unchanged prices, on 1 August 2025, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) will increase Metrorail ticket prices. Funds from the hike will go towards maintenance, safety, and operational costs. Despite criticism over service and safety, PRASA promises affordable, efficient commuter services. The agency will also reintroduce weekly and monthly tickets, still offering discounts for off-peak travel. Transport remains economical for many working-class South Africans.
