💨 Abstract
Saffron, the world's most expensive spice, is being cultivated in South Africa, offering high financial returns and drought-resilient farming. Farmers in the Northern Cape and Western Cape, such as Joe Kroon and Bennie Engelbrecht of Saffricon, have seen significant success with saffron crops. The labor-intensive process involves harvesting tiny threads from saffron flowers, with 150,000 flowers yielding just one kilogram.
