💨 Abstract
The eThekwini Municipality has issued a ban on fishing and recreational activities at some beaches due to severe sewage pollution. The ban is in response to a sewage discharge near the Umngeni River, caused by vandalism, theft, and illegal connections into the sewer system. The municipality is investigating the source of the sewage and plans to repair damaged infrastructure once the inquiry concludes.
