A South African police sergeant, Rachel Shokoane-Kutumela, appeared in court on charges of murdering six individuals for insurance payouts worth at least R10 million. The victims, from disadvantaged backgrounds, were known to the suspect. The killings allegedly began in 2019, with bodies being found in different locations. Shokoane-Kutumela is also accused of taking out insurance policies on the victims' behalf.
