💨 Abstract

On New Year’s Day, a tragic incident occurred at Pennington Beach in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. A group of beachgoers was swept out by rip currents near the tidal pool, leading to a mass drowning. Three people died, and three remain missing. A multi-agency search and rescue operation was launched, involving lifeguards, police, and emergency services. The Provincial Disaster Management Centre continues to coordinate efforts.
