💨 Abstract
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has confirmed a strong El Niño event forming in the Pacific, expected to intensify this spring. Sea surface temperatures are already exceeding thresholds for a very strong event, potentially making it the strongest in living memory. Historically, El Niño events bring below-normal rainfall and above-normal temperatures to southern Africa.
