💨 Abstract
Despite a 12.4% decline in murders during the first quarter of 2025, South Africa remains plagued by high levels of crime, with over 63 murders reported daily. The overall murder rate per 100,000 people decreased but still exceeds previous years. Contact crimes saw a slight reduction, but sexual offenses and commercial crime remain significant concerns.
