A Japanese sushi entrepreneur paid a record $3.2 million (R53 million) for a 243kg bluefin tuna at Tokyo's annual new year auction. The high price, though surprising, indicates improving Pacific bluefin tuna stocks after near-collapse. Dave Gershman of the Pew Charitable Trusts highlighted the success of a 2017 recovery plan and urged further sustainable management.
