💨 Abstract

Kenya's Albert Korir, the 2021 New York Marathon champion, has been banned for five years after admitting to using a banned performance-enhancing drug, synthetic erythropoietin (EPO). The ban, effective from January 8, 2026, was reduced from six years due to his early admission. Korir tested positive in October 2025 and has notable wins in the New York and Ottawa marathons.
