💨 Abstract

Leatherjackets, the larvae of crane flies, are causing significant damage to lawns across the UK by feeding on grass roots. This results in brown, sparse patches. A budget-friendly solution involves placing slices of bread on the lawn to attract starlings, which feed on the leatherjackets. Other methods include using nematodes, microscopic worms that kill the pests, or covering the lawn with black sacks overnight to bring the grubs to the surface for easy removal.
