💨 Abstract
Carmen Davies, 29, lives with trimethylaminuria (TMAU), a rare genetic disorder that causes her to emit a strong odor resembling rotting sewage from her breath, sweat, and urine. Diagnosed in 2023, the condition, also known as fishy odor syndrome, is caused by a mutation in the FMO3 gene that prevents the body from breaking down trimethylamine.
