💨 Abstract

Syphilis cases in England surged in 2024, with 13,030 diagnoses— a 5% increase from 2023. Early-stage diagnoses also rose, driven largely by a 23.8% increase among heterosexual men. While early diagnoses decreased among gay and bisexual men, they still saw additional cases overall. Syphilis can cause severe complications and is passed through unprotected sex or from mother to baby.
