💨 Abstract

The UK's inflation rate surged to 3.5% in April, its highest in over a year according to the Office for National Statistics. This increase from 2.6% in March was driven by soaring energy bills, along with higher costs for council tax and water. An unusual 6.4% spike in energy price caps and a 5% rise in council tax bills contributed significantly to this inflation jump.
