💨 Abstract

The Dartford tunnel tolls may triple if the Lower Thames Crossing project, a £9.2 billion route linking Essex and Kent is funded privately, say transport analysts. Current fees could rise from £2.50 to £8.10 for cars and £14 for lorries. National Highways, however, denies these claims, stating tolls will only increase with inflation. Meanwhile, environmental groups are concerned about potential increases in pollution and congestion.
