💨 Abstract

An elderly 92-year-old amputee, Donald Burgess, armed with a butter knife was tasered and pepper-sprayed by officers in his care home after threatening staff. Officers PC Rachel Comotto and PC Stephen Smith maintained they acted due to threats and physical altercation, claiming they did not realize the extent of his disabilities. After the incident, Burgess was rushed to the hospital but died 22 days later due to COVID-19. The officers were cleared of assault charges.
