💨 Abstract
A U.S. federal court blocked most of Donald Trump's global tariffs, ruling that he overstepped his authority. The decision is a major blow to Trump's trade policies, which imposed tariffs on nearly every country. The court did not declare tariffs illegal but stated that the executive branch cannot impose them without Congress. Trump is likely to appeal the decision. Some countries, like Britain, had already entered into new trade deals with the U.S. despite the tariffs.
