💨 Abstract
Since 2017, UK parents can only claim child tax credit and universal credit for their first two children, leading to an estimated £3.5 billion in savings for the taxpayer. Labour and Reform are pushing to lift the two-child benefit cap, a policy introduced by the Conservative party, to tackle child poverty. The cap impacts around 450,000 families, with the majority having three or more children.
