💨 Abstract

Air Chief Marshal Sir Rich Knighton, a career engineer, will become the first non-pilot to lead the UK's armed forces as Chief of the Defence Staff. Knighton, known for launching the RAF’s Tempest fighter jet project, was chosen over more operationally experienced candidates. He will oversee the Army, Navy, and Air Force under a new Military Strategic Headquarters.
