💨 Abstract

A review by the Migration Advisory Committee suggests that the planned increase in the salary threshold for British citizens and settled migrants sponsoring spouses on family visas may violate the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The proposed threshold of £38,700, intended to reduce net migration, is deemed incompatibly high and unrelated to family migration. The committee recommends lowering the threshold to £23,000 to £25,000.
