💨 Abstract

Labour's plan to achieve Net Zero by 2050 could cost British households an extra £500 annually, totaling £350 billion more over 25 years compared to a slower approach. The National Energy System Operator suggests that abandoning the Net Zero target could save the UK £14 billion yearly. However, the government argues that rapid green transition will offer long-term savings, energy security, and job support, while reducing vulnerability to global energy shocks.
