💨 Abstract
The U.S. government is set to release billions of sterile flies over Mexico and southern Texas to combat the New World Screwworm fly, a pest that can devastate livestock, wildlife, and even pets. This method of using sterile flies to reduce the population has been successful in the past. The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to establish new fly-breeding facilities in Mexico and Texas.
