đź’¨ Abstract
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the return of a Confederate memorial, the "Reconciliation Monument," to Arlington National Cemetery. Removed in 2023, the sculpture is being restored as part of efforts to reinstall Confederate memorials. The monument, created in 1914, includes depictions such as a Black "mammy" and a slave. It was removed due to its sanitized portrayal of the Confederacy and slavery.
