💨 Abstract
Scammers are targeting gift cards through a scheme called "gift card draining." They scratch off the code on store cards, cover it back up, and drain the funds once the card is purchased and activated. To protect yourself, inspect gift cards for tampering, buy them from secure displays, and use a credit card for purchases. If scammed, report it to the D.C. Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking or the Attorney General's office.
