In recent weeks, D.C. has seen an increase in property damage, fights, and violence by large groups of teens. Police Chief Pamela Smith and Mayor Muriel Bowser have condemned these actions, with increased police presence and potential curfew adjustments planned. Mayor Bowser also announced a family-friendly Holiday Hype event at Banneker Recreation Center to provide safe spaces for teens.
