💨 Abstract
In Mayor Muriel Bowser’s proposed 2026 budget, while some programs for D.C.’s youngest residents were funded, the Baby Bonds plan and the District Child Tax Credit were not. The Baby Bonds program, championed by Council member Kenyan McDuffie, aims to create a trust fund for low-income newborns, depositing $1,000 annually until they turn 18.
