💨 Abstract

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has tightened helicopter flight restrictions around Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, following a deadly January crash. The new rules reduce the zones where helicopters can fly by several miles, pushing traffic farther from commercial flights and creating a new approach pattern for better vertical separation. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy supports an independent audit to review airspace safety. The updated restrictions were implemented on June 12, 2025.
