💨 Abstract
A recent report by the Council on Criminal Justice shows that violent crime rates are declining nationwide, often falling below pre-pandemic levels. However, in Washington D.C., while violent crime incidents are decreasing, they are becoming deadlier. The lethality of violent crimes in D.C. has increased by over 300% since 2012. Gun-related deaths have doubled, with a significant rise in the use of conversion switches that turn handguns into fully automatic weapons.
