💨 Abstract

In the D.C. region, the presence of school resource officers (SROs) has become a contentious issue. While some areas like Prince William, Fairfax, and Loudoun counties still place officers in schools, others like Arlington and Montgomery County have removed them. Arlington focuses on school safety coordinators instead, while Montgomery uses community engagement officers who patrol near schools. Critics argue that the absence of SROs has led to increased misbehavior and slow police responses.
