💨 Abstract

A landslide in a Swiss village has highlighted the role of global warming in glacier collapses. Melting permafrost and increased debris led to the collapse. Similar incidents have occurred worldwide, from the Alps to the Himalayas, with climate change as a common factor. Glaciers worldwide are retreating, with significant losses in the Alps and Peru. The melting raises sea levels and endangers communities dependent on glaciers for water.
