💨 Abstract
At the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, the focus is on turning long-standing ocean protection promises into action. Currently, only 2.7% of the ocean is effectively protected, far below the "30x30" pledge to conserve 30% of land and sea by 2030. This conference aims to accelerate the ratification of the High Seas Treaty, which would allow nations to establish marine protected areas in international waters.
