💨 Abstract
A staffing shortage among Prince George’s County, Maryland, firefighters has persisted for years, even as call volumes have risen. The union IAFF 1619 commissioned a study showing insufficient firefighters and firehouses to meet the county's needs. Average response times in Prince George’s County are nine minutes 28 seconds which is over double the national standard. Fire Chief Tiffany Green and IAFF 1619 agree that more staff is needed.
