Don Bacon, a centrist Republican from Nebraska’s blue-leaning second district, announced he will not seek reelection in 2026. Known as an independent-minded Air Force veteran, Bacon serves on the House Armed Services Committee and chairs the Republican Main Street Caucus. He was first elected in 2016 and won reelection in 2024. Punchbowl News was the first to report Bacon’s decision.
