💨 Abstract
The U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) faced a sudden takeover by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in March 2025, resulting in the firing of its board, acting president, and nearly all 300 staff members. DOGE seized the institute's headquarters and assets, despite USIP's status as an independent, nonprofit think tank funded by Congress.
