💨 Abstract

Nearly a year after Hurricane Helene, volunteers and staff are working to restore the Appalachian Trail in eastern Tennessee. This effort is crucial as federal resources are strained. With over 2,000 miles, the trail attracts millions annually, but last year, around 430 miles were closed due to the storm. Volunteers from various backgrounds are focusing on making the trail resilient and safe for hikers, filling large gaps left by fallen trees and repairing damaged sections.
